History of the Laser

Meko

Did you know that laser technology can be traced back to a concept proposed by Albert Einstein? As early as 1917 he described the physical principle of “stimulated emission,” laying the groundwork for all later laser applications.

More than forty years later, theory became practice: the first operational laser—a ruby laser emitting red light—was built. Soon afterward, lasers were used to cut metals and other materials, and today laser processing is indispensable in industrial manufacturing.

MeKo’s own story also began with a laser in a garage, in 1991. The photograph shows the very place where our company started.

What began as Einstein’s theoretical insight is now a firmly established part of daily operations at MeKo.
