Medical Devices and Sheet Metal Processing

Eight colleagues represented MeKo at the inaugural H/21 Half Marathon in Hannover . On October 11, the MeKo Runners took on the 21.1-kilometer course . With temperatures around 13°C and plenty of rain, the conditions called for extra determination. Thank you to all eight runners and everyone who supported and cheered on the team along the way.

Dutch MedTech company Choice is developing a micro-mechanical contraceptive implant measuring around 1.6 millimeters in diameter . Based on a controllable valve mechanism, the system is designed for placement in the fallopian tube and is intended to provide reversible contraception. Multiple miniaturized components need to work reliably together within an extremely confined environment. MeKo supports this development by combining manufacturing expertise with early design feedback . Complex Nitinol components, including the stent structure and spring element, are assessed for manufacturability, reliability and scalability from the outset. “Without MeKo, we would not have been able to achieve this level of miniaturization,” says Peter Van De Graaf , Founder and CEO of Choice. The collaboration demonstrates how closely product development and precision manufacturing need to work together when miniaturizing medical devices.

At BioInterface 2026 in Salt Lake City , MeKo is taking a closer look at medical device surfaces. Jakob Dohse will be there to exchange ideas on electropolished finishes and functional coatings. The final micrometers offer plenty to discuss: what do new applications require from a surface, and how can those requirements be translated into manufacturing? We look forward to exchanging perspectives with fellow attendees.

Our heartbeat is something we rarely think about until something changes. On World Heart Day, we’re reminded how much depends on that steady rhythm working quietly in the background, every second of every day. At MeKo, heart health has a place both in and beyond our work , from colleagues staying active together in sports groups to making use of fitness programs such as Hansefit, while our daily work contributes to cardiovascular technologies that can make a difference. Because behind every implant is a person who wants to keep moving, spending time with family and simply enjoying life.

Originally created for our 30th anniversary, our notebox recently received an update to mark 35 years of MeKo. What looks like a simple everyday helper starts as a single thin sheet of stainless steel . The contour, anniversary detail, and weight-reducing pattern in the base are laser cut first. The edges are then carefully finished before several bending steps turn the flat sheet into its final shape. No welding. No additional joining. The stability comes from the way the individual sections are designed and bent into place. It might seem simple, but that is exactly what we like about it. Laser cutting, edge finishing, and bending are all typical processes in our MetalWorks production, brought together in something you can use every day. Sometimes the best way to show what manufacturing can do is to put the result right on your desk.

Team MeKo returned to the SportScheckRUN in Hannover this year, with colleagues choosing between the 5K and 10K courses through the city center in the evening. Different distances, different paces, but the same atmosphere. City lights, cheering from the sidelines, and plenty of energy along the course. The Hildesheim Corporate Run has become a familiar date on our calendar, and for its 10th anniversary, 15 MeKo colleagues were once again at the starting line. Together with 3,503 participants, they took on the course in three MeKo teams. And this year, there was an extra reason to celebrate: one of our teams secured 1st place in the team ranking. Not even a few rain showers could take away from the evening. There was plenty of running, cheering from the sidelines, and even a few personal bests to celebrate at the finish line. Congratulations to our winning team, and a big thank you to all 15 colleagues who put on their running shoes for MeKo this year!
