Big Engineering at 1.6 Millimeters

Meko

Dutch MedTech company Choice is developing a micro-mechanical contraceptive implant measuring around 1.6 millimeters in diameter. Based on a controllable valve mechanism, the system is designed for placement in the fallopian tube and is intended to provide reversible contraception.

Multiple miniaturized components need to work reliably together within an extremely confined environment. MeKo supports this development by combining manufacturing expertise with early design feedback. Complex Nitinol components, including the stent structure and spring element, are assessed for manufacturability, reliability and scalability from the outset.

“Without MeKo, we would not have been able to achieve this level of miniaturization,” says Peter Van De Graaf, Founder and CEO of Choice.

The collaboration demonstrates how closely product development and precision manufacturing need to work together when miniaturizing medical devices.
